3 x USA is three exhibitions by US-based artists in one space, ZIRKA, during Munich Jewellery Week. The Exhibitions are Unfamiliars, A Call for Darkness, and Tasty: A collaborative student exhibition

Unfamiliars finds inspiration in the obscured: an in-betweenness, a shadow, a fog. Members from JV Collective push their work into a realm that, while not necessarily uncomfortable, remains unfamiliar. This exhibition is a study of departures and arrivals, and a reach to find the known within unexplored concepts, materials, or processes.

a call for darkness holds what happens in the dark close to the heart. The fear, care, excitement, shade and glimmer. American artists Aaron P Decker and steven KP present an exhibition of new jewellery works that have developed over the past year from their collaborative discussions. Don’t be afraid of the dark.

TASTY serves up luscious surfaces, dazzling bling, confounding found objects, and clever concepts – the many ways that jewellery can surprise and delight us. After all, they say the most successful critique you can receive, is that someone wants to eat your work. TASTY is a collaborative exhibition of student work, with representation from four schools across the United States.

Unfamiliars is presented by JV Collective, a group of seven artists, jewellers, friends, makers, mothers, facilitators, and educators (Melanie Bilenker, leslie d. boyd, Sarah Rachel Brown, Emily Cobb, Luci Jockel, Mallory Weston). Anchored in Philadelphia but national in scope, JV Collective’s home studio is in the former Edward Bok Vocational High School in South Philadelphia (decommissioned in 2013). Years later, the building has transformed into a vibrant space for artists, small businesses, non-profits, and more. This location inspired JV Collective’s previous curatorial projects In-School Suspension and Homeroom.

‘a call for darkness’ is a two-person exhibition composed by American Jewellery artists Aaron P Decker and steven KP. Aaron P Decker is a jeweller and enamellist based in Detroit, Michigan and received their MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2015. steven KP is an artist based in Providence, Rhode Island and received their MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2020.

The participants of TASTY include a representation of current students and recent alumni from the Metals/Jewellery Programs, mentored by JV Collective members, Emily Cobb at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, MA; Leslie Boyd at Metropolitan State University of Denver in Denver, CO; Luci Jockel at Towson University in Towson, MD; and Mallory Weston at Tyler School of Art and Architecture in Philadelphia, PA.
